Sunset 69 held it’s 40th Reunion over the weekend of October 16 ~ 18, 2009, at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 2401 Bass Pro Dr., Grapevine, TX. Reunion activities kicked off early Friday afternoon, with a golf outing…coordinated by Johnny Faulkner…at the beautiful Riverside Golf Course, Farmers Branch, where several foursomes enjoyed an absolutely beautiful day on the course. I can testify that David Johnson shot a 68.

Friday night, the fun moved to the Hotel bar area as the gang got together to visit at the Mixer. And from the laughter and the looks on everyone’s face…all had a good time.

Saturday started off for a large group of classmates in the hotel restaurant for breakfast. Then it was off to tour the school and have our group photograph taken on the front steps of the school. Well, kinda the front…if you can imagine…what use to be the front of the school…all of the steps leading up to the front doors from Jefferson…is now the back of the school…go figure. After the photo op, we assembled in the auditorium to meet and hear Principal Tony Tovar talk about life at Sunset. All I can say is…what a totally different experience than what we had in 69! We ended the meeting with Principal Tovar by singing the Alma Mater…a very moving experience. Afterwards, we were allowed to roam the halls of Sunset. After wondering the halls for about an hour, a group of us met at Jacks Backyard for an impromptu lunch.

Saturday night began with our class President, Barry McConnell, taking to the stage and greeting everyone. Barry then introduced Mike Clayton, who delivered the invocation. Reunion Chairman, Larry Collins, came forward and again welcomed all of the attendees and introduced the Reunion Committee. And just before dinner was served, we viewed a beautiful slide show of our departed classmates…again, another very moving experience. After dinner we hit the “Casino party” and danced to the music of DJ Luther Waldrep. And not to wear out this phrase…BUT…from the laughter and the looks on everyone’s face…all had a very good time.

Sunday morning found the hotel restaurant full of Bison having Brunch after a long and exciting night of revelry…some already looking forward to the next get together.
